Plus, Sevilla continue barren run and Las Palmas battered
FC Barcelona broke the Anoeta curse, Villarreal finally won away to Real Madrid, Sevilla continued a poor run of form, and Real Betis won another hugely entertaining match. Those were the headlines from this round of La Liga, which also saw Atlético Madrid and Valencia pick up important victories to keep the title race alive. At the other end of the table, Málaga lost their fourth straight while Las Palmas were trounced.
Barcelona came back from being 0-2 down to win 4-2 against Real Sociedad, for the first time in the league in ten years at the Anoeta Stadium. That kept the gap at the top steady with Atlético, who had beaten Eibar 1-0. Valencia cruised to a 2-1 win over Deportivo La Coruña to keep themselves 11 points from the leaders, but Real Madrid drifted further away as they lost 1-0 to Villarreal.
Pablo Fornals scored the only goal in the 87th with a sumptuous chip.
Madrid should be thankful that Sevilla are in a similarly bad run. The rojiblancos have lost 4 of the last 5, and yet they are only 3 points back of los blancos.
Real Betis continue to provide the most entertaining matches in La Liga, this time they won 3-2 thanks to a goal from the substitute Rubén Castro in the 83rd. Betis had led 2-0 but allowed Leganés to catch up to make it 2-2 before finally winning it.
Málaga lost again, which keeps them in last place. Getafe won 1-0 with a goal from Juan Cala. And Las Palmas are tied on points for last still, and they did their goal difference no favors, losing 6-0 to Girona. The newly promoted Catalan team are fighting for European spots, currently only 3 points away from Sevilla in 6th.
