Barcelona Loanee Sergi Samper Setting in at Granada

The La Masia product is finally getting comfortable.

Sergi Samper is one of the most hyped La Masia products in a long time, but his loan to Granada had not been very successful.

Of 12 La Liga matches, Samper started just half, and worse, he had only played the full ninety once.

Samper was not helped when Granada’s coach Paco Jémez was fired. He was thought to be a good teacher to Samper as a possession-oriented coach, but results were not going his way and he was dismissed.

Veteran manager Lucas Alcaraz was his replacement and, at first, he seemed unsure how to use the Catalan midfielder. He started receiving less, not more, playing time.

But now Samper has played the full 90 in the last two matches, a stark difference from when he played about 54 minutes of the past 3 matches combined.

Particularly, the last match against Sevilla was one of his strongest the whole season as Granada won 2-1.

With Sergio Busquets and André Gomes, Samper will have a tough time breaking into the rotation at Barcelona, but it’s far from impossible if he keeps improving.
