Barcelona target Gerson indeed moving to AS Roma, according to club president

The soap opera is over. The Brazilian Pogba has been sold, and he is not coming to Barcelona.

As we anticipated last Monday, 18-year-old wonderkid and Fluminense star Gerson is set to join Serie A after his club accepted a €17 million offer from AS Roma. Barcelona, who had acquired priority to sign the midfielder and had the right to match any proposal, decided not to, and Gerson is indeed moving to Italy.

Fluminense president Peter Siemsen called for a press conference on Wednesday and ended the rumors, saying clearly that the deal with Roma is done, and Gerson is going to Italy this week to sign a contract with the Giallorossi.

"It's not ideal to talk during negotiations, but in this case there was a lot of rumors from everywhere with a lot of different versions. To reassure the player and his father, we decided to make things clear. We received a formal offer from Roma, and it was very good. Fluminense thought it was right to accept it. The player and his father talked to the club and told us they also accepted. We then forwarded the offer to Barcelona, as agreed. Barcelona didn't exercise their priority, so Fluminense moved on to close the deal with Roma."

Gerson has a contract with Fluminense until December, and Roma decided to let the player stay to finish the Brazilian season and join Serie A in 2016. The Rio de Janeiro club will refund the €3.2 million spent by the Catalan giants to acquire the priority on the deal.

However, Barça still decided to maintain the priority on 19-year-old Marlon, the ultra-talented Fluminense center-back who is a real target for the 2016-17 season.
