Some strong words
Xavi Hernandez was thrilled after seeing his Barcelona team beat Porto 2-1 and secure a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Barca had to do it the hard way, after going a goal down, but picked up the three points thanks to goals from Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Here’s what Xavi said after the match.
“We are through to the last 16 and in plenty of phases in this match we played well. I’m delighted for the club and this was a really good win against a top, historic club.
“I thought we showed really good winner’s mentality in how we reacted to going 1-0 down. I thought it was perfect to equalise so quickly and the second half showed us at a good level.
“At half-time I told my players they had to be more daring, that they had to take the right risks in order to bring the ball out better.
“And, as for Iñaki Peña - he was extraordinary. João Félix needed that goal - it’ll be important for him. It’s also true that if we’d taken our big chances the result could have been even more convincing for us.”
Xavi also spoke about how he hoped this could be a “turning point” for his players after a difficult couple of weeks. Let’s hope he’s right!
