The Dutchman spoke after the match
Ronald Koeman admitted that Barcelona were left “sad and disappointed” by Sunday’s Super Cup defeat to Athletic in Seville.
The Dutch coach had been bidding to lift his first trophy since taking over as Barca boss but instead saw his team twice let slip a lead against Marcelino’s men.
Koeman admitted his team were down after the game but insisted it was not a step backwards despite the defeat.
“You have to analyze the game, it’s difficult. We are sad and disappointed, because we wanted to win.
“It’s not a step backwards. A title is convenient to show that you’re on the right path, but we’ve still showed that we are. We’ve done everything to win, but we were very tired. For many players it will prove a good experience to have played in this final.”

The Barca boss also seemed pretty unhappy with the match officials. He added that “it’s better if I don’t talk” when asked about the referee and had sympathy for Messi after his red card because “I don’t know how many fouls they committed against him.”
