A study puts the Catalan giants top of the pile
Barcelona remain the best paid sports team in the world ahead of Real Madrid and Juventus, according to Sporting Intelligence’s Global Sports Salaries Survey (GSSS).
The annual study measures the average basic pay of first-team squads and sees Barca keep their place at the top of the pile with average pay of just over £9.8 million ($12.28m).

La Liga rivals Real Madrid are next on the list with average pay of £8.9m ($11.15m), and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus have risen from ninth to third on £8m ($10.1m).
The only other two football clubs in the top 20 are French champions Paris Saint-Germain at No. 12, just ahead of Premier League champions Manchester City.
The rest of the top 10 is filled out by NBA teams:
- Barcelona: £9.8m ($12.28m).
- Real Madrid: £8.9m ($11.15m)
- Juventus £8.08m ($10.1m)
- Portland Trailblazers: £8.03m ($10.03m)
- Golden State Warriors: £7.93m ($9.92m)
- Orlando Magic: £7.58m ($9.47m)
- Oklahoma City Thunder: £7.54m ($9.43m)
- Denver Nuggets: £7.44m ($9.31m)
- Miami Heat: £7.43m ($9.29m)
- Cleveland Cavaliers: £7.36m ($9.2m)
Barcelona were also top of the list last year but with an average wage of £10.5m, slightly below this year’s total.
