The boss says his team struggle after Champions League matches
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde said his team lacked spark and freshness during Saturday’s La Liga win over Real Sociedad.
The hosts took all three points thanks to goals from defenders Clement Lenglet and Jordi Alba, but Valverde believes his team always find it tough going after Champions League matches.
“When there is a game like the one against Manchester United, which is the centre of attention, you then have to get back to reactivating the team for another game which is fundamental,” he explained.
”The games after Champions League matches are difficult for us all. The game was uncomfortable, as they played well and tried to bring the play out from the back.
”We couldn’t bring it out as we wanted to. We lacked a spark and freshness to be able to decide the game, but the goal gave us tranquillity.
”In the second half we were better, but the goal woke them up. Fortunately, Jordi Alba’s goal then arrived.”

There’s not much respite for Barcelona as they return to action against Alaves on Tuesday, before hosting Levante next Saturday. However, if they win both games they will be crowned champions with three games left to play.
