Barcelona does not want to let him go for free
FC Barcelona are keen on offering Arturo Vidal an additional year on his current contract, which runs out in 2021, according to Diario SPORT. The report says the Catalans are happy with Vidal’s role in the team and do not want to allow him to leave on a free transfer during the summer two years from now.
Vidal reportedly has become accustomed to his role as a rotation player rather than a sure starter, something he was for Juventus and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, his performances on the pitch have gotten attention from clubs such as Inter Milan, and he could be an attractive option for the Asian market, according to SPORT.
Apart from his quality, the coaching staff is reportedly very pleased with his character in the dressing room. In contrast to his image as a madman, Vidal has gotten along very well with Barcelona’s players, and in particular, the club’s South American contingent. He’s also surprised many by being a key figure for young players, taking several under his wing.
If a big offer came for him before 2021, Barcelona might consider it. But for the moment it seems the club plans to keep him around for at least one more season, if not two.
