Ernesto Valverde has called up 20 players for the trip to Wembley
The next Barcelona match is upon us! Coming off a third consecutive game without winning in La Liga, the Blaugrana try to turn their fortunes around when they travel to Wembley Stadium to face Tottenham Hotspur in a giant Champions League game.
Manager Ernesto Valverde has called up 20 players for the trip to England, and these are the guys:
Goalkeepers: 1. Marc-André ter Stegen, 13. Jasper Cillessen, 30. Iñaki Peña
Defenders: 2. Nélson Semedo, 3. Gerard Piqué, 15. Clément Lenglet, 18. Jordi Alba, 24. Thomas Vermaelen, 27. Juan Miranda
Midfielders: 4. Ivan Rakitic, 5. Sergio Busquets, 6. Denis Suarez, 7. Philippe Coutinho, 8. Arthur, 12. Rafinha, 22. Arturo Vidal
Forwards: 9. Luis Suárez, 10. Lionel Messi, 11. Ousmane Dembélé, 19. Munir
Since this is an European game away from home it’s always been common for managers to call up some Barça B boys to join the trip, and Valverde does the same here with full-back Miranda and goalkeeper Iñaki Peña. They’ll probably be left out of the final 18-man squad that will be in uniform, but the experience alone of being at Wembley will be great for the young boys.
Five first team players won’t have that experience, though: the injured Sergi Roberto and the suspended Samuel Umtiti aren’t available, while Malcom, Carles Aleñá and Sergi Samper stay home per the manager’s decision.
Predicted starting XI (4-4-2):
Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Rakitic, Vidal, Busquets, Coutinho; Messi, Suárez
The match kicks off at 9pm CET (Barcelona), 8pm BST/WAT (UK & Nigeria), 3pm ET, 12pm PT (USA), 12.30am IST (India, Thursday), and you can join us to follow and comment all the action.
