Neymar officially named Brazil national team captain in Rio 2016

The Barça superstar remains the national team skipper

Neymar Jr will be the captain of the Brazil side for the Olympic football tournament in Rio 2016, Brazil coach Rogério Micale announced on Friday.

The Barcelona superstar has been the Brazil senior captain for the last two years under former manager Dunga, and that does not change in the U-23 side, even though Dunga is no longer the coach.

Neymar has been deeply criticized by Seleção fans and analysts for his behavior as captain. The criticism points to Neymar's lack of leadership on and off the pitch, and many had called for the player not to wear the armband in the Olympics.

Players like PSG's Marquinhos, São Paulo center-back Rodrigo Caio, midfielder Renato Augusto and 38-year-old goalkeeper Fernando Prass have all been deemed better choices for the captaincy then Neymar, but Micale sticks with the plan and the armband goes to the team's best player.

Brazil is hoping to win the Olympic football tournament for the first time in the nation's history, and Neymar wants to be remembered as the guy who led a country to glory as captain.
