La Liga News: 10 July 2016: Icardi Linked With Atleti Switch, Griezmann Backed For Ballon d'Or

If Griezmann is successful, he would be the first Ballon d'Or winner not named Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo since Kaka in 2007. "Griezmann for me is one of the candidates for the Golden Ball," Wenger said to Konbini. "In Spain, he is not far from Ronaldo and Messi. Age is on his side and look at the Euros: six goals, three or four assists - these stats are not nothing."
Espanyol have announced the signing of Leo Baptistao from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old has agreed a five-year deal with Quique Sanchez Flores's side. "Leo Baptistao has become the fourth signing ahead of the 2016-17 season," an Espanyol statement confirmed.
Los Blancos rejected a 60 million euro offer from Chelsea on Saturday, and with club president Florentino Perez reportedly eager to see more youth in the side, the 23-year-old will stay at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The striker scored 12 goals for Juventus last season and led the Spanish national team in scoring at Euro 2016. Morata joined the Real Madrid academy in 2008 and scored 11 first-team goals before moving to Italy in 2014.
Sagna insists Griezmann should now be considered one of the best players in the world, noting the Atletico Madrid forward had to leave France to succeed. "Antoine, to me, is right up there in the same league as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi," Sagna told UEFA.com. "It's a kind of revenge for him after the French academies wouldn't take him."
As claim Mauro Icardi already has a deal with Atletico Madrid and the Inter striker’s wife – and agent – fuelled those rumours. Today’s edition of the Spanish paper suggests Wanda Nara negotiated the basic structure of a contract with Atleti. Diego Simeone is known to be a big admirer of Icardi, who was Serie A top scorer in 2014-15, and is approaching the situation via Wanda.
Real Madrid signed the player in January 2015, for 2.8 million euros from Stromsgodset.  After 18 months with the second string Castilla, he has failed to adapt and has not shown a sufficient evolution in his game to make the leap to the first team. 'Los Blancos' are actively searching for a solution to the player's situation. The ideal outcome would be to loan him to a mid-table Liga club. However, the salary of the youngster makes this a very difficult, and unlikely, option.
Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo has turned down Middlesbrough. The Mirror says Spanish sources say Aitor Karanka wanted a Premier League winner to lead his Middlesbrough attack this season - and so turned to ex-Manchester City man Negredo. However, the Valencia man has reportedly rejected Karanka's approach.
