The Chilean only had to make only two saves, both of them in the dying moments of each half, with the one on Samu Castillejo proving to key. Bravo even finished with one dribble, easily skipping past Roberto Soldado early in the game. |

Arguably one of Alves’ better performances this season, which isn't saying much, though it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that it came in a game in which he wasn’t tested much defensively. Alves spent most of the game time in attack, always looking to extend the play, though to mixed results as he had a poor passing game, by his standards, and quite a few times turned the ball over. The Brazilian was able to get a few good looks on goal, but the best of his shots, early in the second half, was excellently denied by Alphonse Areola. |

Mathieu wasn’t seen much in this one, which for a defender is usually a good sign. Rarely the Frenchman put a foot wrong defensively and with plenty of time on his hands he even ventured forward on a few occasions, even testing the goalkeeper midway through the first half. Picked up a yellow card for a foul shortly after he saw his shot get saved. |

Considering the firepower that Villarreal boast it was surprising to see how little Pique had to do. His positioning was strong throughout, leading to a few intercepted passes, but that was about the only action Pique saw – though he did make a few good plays in the air. Pique picked up a yellow card midway through the second half and was later subbed out as a precaution for him not to pick up a red card before the El Clasico. |

A relatively calm game for the speedy Barcelona full back even though was probably the defender that saw the most action, as most of Villarreal’s threats came down Alba’s wing, but the Spaniard did a very good job of keeping those attacks to the perimeter. Continuously Alba also provided width to the Barcelona attack, always being open for a pass from one of his teammates, though the end product wasn’t always there. |

Fresh off a week of praise from coaches and pundits alike, Busquets put in another stellar performance. It was his work that got Barça’s opening goal. Pushing high, he regained possession before threading an eye of the needle pass to the feet of Neymar, the Brazilian finished and Busquets registered his first assist of the season. Elsewhere, he was the midfield metronome. Tackling and intercepting before picking out a teammate with great accuracy, an attribute that pushed Barça towards victory. |

His influence was felt across the pitch as was almost always an option to pass to. His passing accuracy was slightly lower than usual but can be explained by his attempts to go for the tricky passes. Uncharacteristically he also picked up a yellow card. |

Again though, not present long enough to be rated. |

Once again Neymar dazzled and Suarez persevered, the two are combining fantastically in the absence of our dear leader. At the back, Barcelona looked assured and Villareal were restricted to a few long distance shots which never really troubled Bravo. In Midfield Busquets was his usual understated genius self, Roberto as aggressive and mobile as always and Iniesta showed a few touches of class that will be needed in the big one coming up. All roads lead to El Clasico. |
