Neymar’s father and lawyer meeting with Barcelona - report

Tomorrow is a critical day for the return of Neymar

Neymar’s return to FC Barcelona hinges in large part on an important meeting set to take place tomorrow between his father and lawyer and a representative of the club, according to Esporte Interativo.

André Cury, a key man for Barça in Brazil, is reportedly set to meet with two of the player’s most trusted confidents in a meeting that is seen by the Brazilian outlet as representing maximum importance.

Marcelo Bechler, who was the journalist who first broke the story of Neymar moving to Paris Saint-Germain, reported that there was a lot of optimism that the Brazilian star would be playing for Barça once again.

In addition, he tells us that while there are rumors of Barcelona including a player in the deal, PSG for the moment does not want to get either Philippe Coutinho or Ousmane Dembélé and prefers receiving the complete fee by itself.

Diario SPORT reports that while PSG initially set their asking price at 300 million euro, they have quickly moved their expectations downward. They speculate that he could end up costing less than the original 200 million that Neymar was originally sold for.

Barcelona selling players to fund Neymar, Griezmann moves

Many players have been auctioned and a couple more are expected

FC Barcelona have already raised almost 80 million euro from player sales and are looking to sell of a few more players in order to fund the huge fees that will be needed to sign Neymar and Antoine Griezmann.

Marc Cardona to Osasuna, 2.5 million. André Gomes to Everton, 25 million. Jasper Cillessen to Valencia, 35 million. Denis Suárez to Celta Vigo, 16 million. That’s a total of 78.5 million euro in player sales already, with more on the way.

(Although, it has to be said, that a big chunk of that - equalling Cillessen’s transfer fee - has already been spent to acquire Neto from Valencia.)

Barça don’t have to raise all the money through sales to pay for the two stars they want, but getting a return on unwanted players is necessary to ease the financial burden.

Rafinha is another player that the Catalans are hoping to get something for, although given his injury history it might prove difficult.

Finally, there are some “heavy hitters” that could be sold for more substantial sums. Philippe Coutinho is the primary suspect here, and he and/or others could actually be going to Paris Saint-Germain as part of the Neymar deal.

Ousmane Dembélé, Ivan Rakitić, Malcom, and Samuel Umtiti are also names that have been mentioned as possibly leaving this summer.

Neymar’s contract could be based more on bonuses if he signs for Barcelona - report

Barça want guarantees that he’ll be up to his best

FC Barcelona want to ensure that the Neymar they are getting is the brilliant star they remember and not the sometimes-jaded version that played for Paris Saint-Germain last season, so they want to make his contract be based more on bonuses than before, according to Mundo Deportivo.

If Neymar returns to Barcelona, it will be a huge investment for the Catalan club, and it’s no surprise they want guarantees that he will be worth the money. According to the report, the club’s ideal contract will be based on performance bonuses to motivate Neymar to give his best.

Reports in the media continue to say that the Brazilian is privately pushing for a move out of PSG, and that the French club has shown a certain degree of openness to a potential deal. The latest rumors say Barcelona want him to take his plea from the private sphere to the public level in order to force a move. Not just that, but that Neymar himself has signaled he is willing to take that step should it be necessary.

Griezmann release clause drops, Barcelona signing a matter of days

Multiple reports say that Griezmann will finally join Barça soon, although it’s not clear just when

Antoine Griezmann’s release clause has just dropped to 120 million euro, meaning Barcelona can sign the Atlético Madrid forward for that reduced fee at any point in this transfer window. Multiple reports say the Catalans will do exactly that, although estimates for when that will happen vary from a few days to a couple weeks.

Diario SPORT tells us that he will sign in the next two weeks if “nothing strange happens.” Mundo Deportivo says he will be announced around the 8th or 10th of the month. ESPN says that while the announcement is not imminent, Barça are already working on his signing and it should be done in a few days.

There were reports that Barcelona could pay slightly more than the release clause to get Atlético to agree to a fee paid in installments, but it doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. ESPN and Mundo Deportivo both say that Barcelona do not intend to pay a single euro more than the 120 million clause, with the latter adding that the fee could even be lower if the Catalans agree to ship off a player in exchange.

Nélson Semedo has been rumored to interest the colchoneros but MD tells us that he is “untouchable” as far as Barcelona are concerned, so he won’t be the one moving if a player is included in the deal at all.

If these rumors are true, that means the end of a long running transfer saga could be on the horizon. Griezmann famously was considered a near certainty by some to sign for Barcelona last year, until he broke his “gentleman’s agreement” with the club at the very last moment through a televised special.

Tebas doesn’t want Neymar at Barca: ‘He’s not a good example’

The La Liga president is not keen on the potential transfer

La Liga president Javier Tebas has said he would prefer it if Neymar did not return to Barcelona this summer because he is not a “good example.”

Speculation continues to swirl that the Brazilian will leave Paris Saint-Germain and move back to the Camp Nout, but it is not a move that Tebas wants to see happen.

“I’d rather Neymar didn’t come to La Liga because he’s not a good example,” he said.

”He can be a great player, but behaviour is also very important in terms of the values we try to put across.

”We always have to bring great players to LaLiga, but in Neymar’s case, this behaviour isn’t good for the competition because it’s about if the player has done this or that.

”We’ve worked hard at La Liga to maintain [certain] values and we don’t want to change this image.”

Tebas also spoke about the financial ramifications of such a move and said Barcelona would have to sell a player if Neymar arrived to comply with FFP regulations.
