The Dutchman is looking forward to working with the new coach
Memphis Depay is looking forward to working with new coach Xavi and feels the Barcelona legend can lift the club’s spirits.
The team have suffered a tough start to the new season and are on a poor run in La Liga that continued on Saturday with a 3-3 draw at Celta Vigo.
Memphis was on target during the game, heading in Barcelona’s third for his sixth league goal of the 2021-22 campaign.
The Dutchman spoke about Xavi after the draw and is expecting the arrival of the former midfielder to give the club a much-needed boost.
“He has a lot of experience of course in top football and I think he will bring that to the team,” he said.
“I don’t know him personally, I know him as a football player of course, but I’m excited to work with him and I think he can lift our spirits.
“We have to lift our spirits together and to speak about things and have conversations to try to have better results.”
Memphis also spoke about the draw at Celta and revealed his frustration at seeing his team throw away a three-nil lead and drop points once again.
“It is hard to explain. I am angry, frustrated. In the first half, we fought for a result and we played a good game and we went 0-3,” he added.
“They changed the tactic somewhat, we didn’t press and we lost control of the game in the second half.”
Xavi has already landed back home and took in Barca B’s game on Saturday. The 41-year-old will be officially presented at the Camp Nou on Monday.
