The deadline has passed to sign the Brazilian outright
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed the club have not activated Philippe Coutinho’s purchase option and says the clause in his contract has now expired.
The Brazilian joined the Bundesliga champions last summer on a season-long loan after a tough spell at the Camp Nou with an option to buy for €120 million.
Unsurprisingly Rummenigge says Bayern have decided not to buy the Brazilian outright but are yet to make a decision on his future.
“The option expired and we haven’t activated it. We’re going to plan our squad for next season and we’ll see if he still has a role to play with us or not.”

Coutinho has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season, contributing nine goals and eight assists. He is currently recovering from ankle surgery and it’s not clear if he will return to fitness before the end of the season.
