Javier Tebas seemed extremely confident.
La Liga President Javier Tebas is confident that for the first time ever, an official Spanish league match will be played in the United States. How sure? He says $10,000 sure.
Barcelona could play Girona in Miami this season, as both clubs have accepted the proposal. However, backlash from players, fans, and even the Spanish federation have put the plans in limbo. Or at least, so we thought, but Tebas seems sure it will happen.
Asked by CNN if he would be willing to bet one dollar that the Barcelona-Girona match would take place next January at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida, Tebas said: “I wouldn’t bet one dollar, I would bet $10,000.”
Such an event would be an unprecedented occasion for the league, and indeed, any of the top European leagues. Barcelona did already play the Spanish Supercup in Morocco this season, the first time it has ever been played outside of Spain. The blaugrana won 2-1 over Sevilla with goals from Gerard Piqué and Ousmane Dembélé
