The Uruguayan now is the player who has given Lionel Messi the most assists in La Liga
“Nooooooo!!!”
That was Dani Alves’s joking response to finding out that he no longer is the player to have given Lionel Messi the most assists in La Liga, after Luis Suárez surpassed him by assisting Messi’s goal in the 1-1 draw against Valencia.
On Twitter, the Brazilian quoted the statistic with that “Nooooooo!!!” response, although followed up by those laughing with tears emojis to show he wasn’t being totally serious.

Despite that, Alves was quite proud of the record and he must feel somewhat upset he lost it, even if he effectively chose not to extend it by leaving Barcelona years ago.
Alves was once quoted as saying: “When we retire, people will ask: ‘Who was the greatest? Messi. And who gave him the passes? Dani. My name is there - whether people like it or not.”
Well, not quite so anymore. Sorry Dani. Maybe you ought to go back?
