The player injured his ankle and will miss the big game
Gareth Bale might miss El Clásico after injuring his ankle in Real Madrid’s win over Sporting. The player was subbed off in that match, and with just 10 days until Real’s clash with Barcelona, it is certain the Welshman will miss out. Bale will undergo surgery to repair his ankle tendons and will be out for one to three months.
Bale has emerged as one of the focal points of Real Madrid’s team and, some say, even their best player this season. Missing out is a big blow for Los Blancos.
Barcelona probably can’t afford to lose this match if they want to win La Liga this season. A loss would pin them 7 points back, and while not impossible, their chances would drop considerably.
Barcelona will likely be boosted by the returns of Andrés Iniesta, Samuel Umtiti and Jérémy Mathieu from injury. Particularly, of course, the return of their captain, Iniesta. Also, Jordi Alba and Gerard Piqué will be approaching full fitness. They were injured previously but have made apperances since the international break.
