Barcelona survive close call and come out with three essential points.
First half almost spelled doom for the Blaugranas as they were dominated by a very entertaining and skillful Sevilla team. Hopefully we are seeing a renaissance of sorts for Spanish teams, from which we could expect better football and more competitiveness. Utter dominance: that is quite honestly the only way to describe Sevilla’s first half. We were seeing some of the same tactical mistakes we saw in the Manchester City game, and the result ended being eerily similar. Both teams were adroitly pressing high up the field, which resulted in poor play from Barcelona, and from which they both capitalized. Luckily, we have some of the undisputedly best players in the world in our employ, which allowed Barcelona to tie the game despite a very shaky start. Thankfully, corrections were made by our skipper during the break, and the Blaugranas emerged from the locker room with a clearer game plan.
Truly a tale of two halves, what was not working in the first half was clicking in the second, and the roles were reversed for Barcelona and Sevilla, with the home side now against the ropes. A very enjoyable situation, I might add, as it was utterly frustrating to see all the talent this team possesses on paper but which they were not demonstrating on the pitch. It is also quite entertaining to observe the mental fortitude this team has. Not many can say they were down one zip at the Sánchez Pizjuán, against a mauling Sevilla side, only to emerge out the other side with three points and a clearer idea of what it takes to succeed in similar situations. Now, if we can all take a deep breath in and channel our devastating genius Captain Barbarossa, let’s forcibly exhale with righteous passion and fury in a teeth-rattling YAWP! Ye tried to impede our joviality, you feckless rogue, but ye had nary a chance of achieving that, Mr. Latre. But seriously though, how terrible was the refereeing?

1st Goleador: Barcelona’s Counterattack.
If I could marry Barcelona’s Counterattack I would. And maybe she could have a delectable dash of tattooing, a splatter of freckles, and an affinity for nerdy types with a surprising love for a ridiculous amount of sports. We would name our son Carles. I honestly love our counter. It is almost FIFA-esque in just how unfair it sometimes seems. I am sure they practice it continuously, so it is not proper of me to insinuate otherwise, but it is incredible just how often the ball is cleared from a corner, a cross, or what have you in our box, only for it to neatly fall at the feet of one of our forwards who then plays a spectacular pass that leads to a breakaway opportunity, and more often than not, a goal.
2nd Goleador: Lucho’s Locker Room Talks
Methinks I could’ve graduated summa cum laude if only I had somebody that motivated me, but also chastised me, when I took my foot of the gas. Let’s be honest here. This is FC Barcelona! This is not some rinky-dink, amateurish mélange of B-quality part-timers. Every single player here is here on account of their merits and abilities. Therefore, it is nonsensical to depend on the abilities of just one or two players, when literally every single player can change the outcome of a match. Yes, we should not be ungrateful fans. But we also should not expect less than their best effort from our players. Is Sevilla’s starting eleven better than ours? I don’t wish to sound pedantic, but I don’t believe that to be the case. As such, shouldn’t we expect every one of our players to play to the best of their abilities? If every player played putting forth their best effort in every game, or close to every game, akin to Sevilla’s first half, we would be very difficult to defeat.
3rd Goleador: MSN
I am going to keep it short with this one. The MSN sometimes has the feel of a heavy, massive juggernaut. It might take them a little longer to start locking in, but once they build up that chemistry, they are nigh unstoppable. It seems that currently, that terrifying dreadnaught, is finally building up a head of steam and will soon be the best trio in modern football history for another fabulous year.
