La Liga News: 4 May 2016: Atletico Progress To Champions League Final, Real Ready For City Test

A goal from Antoine Griezmann sent Atletico Madrid to the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons despite a 2-1 defeat at Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Atletico, which lost to city rival Real Madrid in the 2014 final, progressed on the away goals rule with an aggregate score of 2-2 after winning the first leg of their semifinal in Madrid 1-0.
Arturo Vidal claimed "ugly football" unfairly prevailed as Bayern Munich were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. Trailing to Saul Niguez's stunning first-leg strike, Bayern dominated the return fixture at the Allianz Arena where they had 72.5 per cent possession and 33 attempts on goal.
Pep Guardiola said he had given his life to Bayern Munich over the past three years and refused to accept the inability to deliver the Champions League meant he had failed in his mission at the German club. For the third season in succession, Guardiola lost at the semi-final stage of Europe’s elite competition – on this occasion, to Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid. Bayern won 2-1 on the night but it was not enough to avoid an away goals exit and Simeone paid tribute to them as the best team he had ever faced.
If Manchester City are to reach the Champions League final for the first time in their history, they’re going to have to beat a Real Madrid side which have only lost twice at home this season in La Liga, and haven’t conceded a single goal in their last five games at the Bernabeu. To make things even more difficult for Man City, it is expected that goal-scoring phenomenon Cristiano Ronaldo will return from injury to start. Man City are going to have to score. Mission Improbable.
Manuel Pellegrini has told his Manchester City players not to obsess too much about Cristiano Ronaldo now the three-times world player of the year has been confirmed fit for Wednesday’s second leg of the Champions League semi-final. Ronaldo has recovered from the thigh injury that ruled him out of the first leg at the Etihad Stadium and Pellegrini admitted that would make it even harder for City to overcome the 10-times European Cup winners and reach their first final.
