He made all the easy plays - a couple routine saves, collected some high crosses, even made a clearance 25 yards from goal - however, he was unsuccessful in any of the more difficult plays that in the end could’ve been enough for Barcelona to leave Paris with a point. I’m not blaming him for the first goal, that one was unstoppable for any goalkeeper, but he made a big mistake leaving the line on the second goal. Had he just stayed on the line it would’ve been an easy save for the German. The third goal, I don’t know if I can actually blame him for letting that one in, probably not, but it’s never good when the goalkeeper gets beaten five-hole (through the legs). | |

Well, I can remember a good clearance midway through the first half, but that’s really it. However, I can recall several poor plays by Alves, none worse than the one that led to PSG’s first goal when Alves tried to run by Lucas Moura, only to be stripped of the ball and in the process of trying to win it back Alves was called for a handball and booked for it. From that free kick PSG took the lead. | |

But it’s hard to blame Mascherano for that because he’s at such a big physical disadvantage that he really couldn’t do much more. He made most of his important defensive plays late in the game, after Barcelona took Alves off the pitch, including some great plays one-on-one with Cavani. But the sequence I liked the most was when Mascherano lost the ball on the right side near midfield, but tracked the PSG player all the way back and stole the ball back near the penalty area. | |

On counter attacks he was always in good position, but on a few occasions I had a feeling like he was giving opposing players a little bit too much space, maybe respecting the wingers’ speed too much. He spent a large part of the game high up the pitch, but there his passing was often wasteful which led to quick counter attacks for which he seemed to casual running back. But even when he was in defense he allowed a lot of traffic, mostly to PSG wingers, but it was the full-back, Gregory Van der Wiel, who made him look like a fool when he easily beat him to send a cross in, which turned out to be the assist on the game-winning goal. However, Alba came close to being the hero in the 82nd minute, but his shot on goal, was blocked by a diving Marquinhos. | |

The instantaneous control, the weighting of the pass and the identity of its receiver – this was vintage Barcelona.
