Bravo was once again able to keep his net unscathed, but Eibar came closer than many teams have before this season. The visitors created two brilliant chances, both late in the first half, but while Bravo excellently saved Saul’s one-on-one chance, he was rounded by Ander Capa only for the forward to miss the empty net from close range. However, even though he was beaten by Capa, Bravo had a very good game overall. He was calm on the ball and was confident in the air game, punctuated by his punch-out late in the game. | |

Once again he was all around very wasteful, not only with his crossing, but he was able to save his night with a good assist that resulted in Neymar’s goal. Alves created a couple chances more, most notably the one around the 20 minute mark that sprung Messi behind the defense, but with the space Alves was allowed he could’ve had a much larger impact on the game than he actually had. | |

Minutes played: 90 Touches: 60 Passes: 53 Pass Accuracy: 91 % Tackles: 0 Interceptions: 0 Clearances: 3 Aerial Duels Won: 3 Bostjan says: 6.5 Pique started the game off in brilliant fashion, making several important plays that he made look easy because he was excellent positionally, but as the game went on, he reverted to the Pique we’ve learned to hate. He started making lazy plays, was not paying attention to the man he was supposed to mark and drifted out of position. Would the real Pique please stand up? On the other side of the pitch, Pique had two chances to make his way on the scoreboard, both times through headers, but both times his aim was well off. | |

Minutes played: 90 Touches: 76 Passes: 67 Pass Accuracy: 90% Tackles: 0 Interceptions: 6 Clearances: 1 Aerial Duels Won: 0 Fouls: 0 Bostjan says: 7.0 Mathieu had a quiet game in the heart of the Barcelona defense, but even though he wasn’t tested much he made a few mistakes. There were a couple occasions when he reacted poorly to a through ball and it resulted in chances for the visitors. Mathieu has not made many mistakes in his short Barcelona career, so let’s hope he doesn’t make a habit of it in the future. But it wasn’t all bad for the Frenchman who also made a few solid defensive plays, and even got involved in attack around the one hour mark, making a strong run all the way into Eibar’s penalty box. | |

He constantly looked dangerous in attack, his crossing created confusion in Eibar’s area on more than one occasion, he combined very well in attack with all the forwards, and he even fired a shot on goal. But even though he spent most of the time in Barcelona’s attacking third, Alba did not forget about his defensive duties as he consistently tracked back and took care of his side of the pitch. | |

At face value, Javier Mascherano at pivote works just fine, as if there was any doubt that it would. However, does it really work very well, and how does it work compared to our usual midfield with Sergio Busquets? After the game, I blamed a somewhat noticeable lack of tempo to our passing on Mascherano’s inclusion at pivote, but that might be the FIFA virus. More investigation is needed...but a promising start. Better than Alex Song anyway. | |

With a string of impressive performances, Xavi might just be playing himself into contention for a starting berth in this weekend’s Clasico – the only trouble is that the players he is fighting for that place with are virtually undroppable. Indeed, if anyone looked set to miss out it might be Andrés Iniesta. Unthinkable, right? If Xavi keeps playing like this, never say never. | |

The Argentine was involved throughout the game and seemed to drive the team forward from his new "deeper" role. Messi has added another assist to his stats with a superb through ball for Xavi to finish neatly. La Pulga, then went on to remind everybody of his finishing skills during a fluid move that started from deep and was all about first touches to finally see the ball go in off of the post (another example of the Messi-Neymar link up visibly improving). | |

Neymar's role seems to provide him with the freedom to play his natural game and kudos to Lucho for that. The captain of Brazil is a danger against any opponent, he is involved consistently while having the efficiency with respect to scoring. Neymar has scored 9 goals so far. | |

Even if my jaw hasn’t hit the floor yet this season, it doesn’t mean that Iniesta is playing badly. Quite the opposite even, he’s been solid and quietly, he improves the team with his mere presence on the field. | |

This was expected, and that’s probably the scariest thing for the rest of La Liga; a sign that Barça really are back. Then again, it's hard to argue that when that man scores a goal and adds an assist. Still, my vote went the way of an "old" midfielder who got on the scoreboard with a beautiful chip. Xavi finished the community voting in second place with 27%, while Neymar finished a distant third with 10% of the votes. | |
