Rumor: Barcelona Fight to Sign Kevin Gameiro From Sevilla

Competing theories about which forward Barcelona will sign - Vietto or Gameiro or another.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo is insisting Barcelona has agreed to sign Luciano Vietto from Atletico Madrid, but rival newspaper Diario Sport is not convinced. According to the latter, the priority is Kevin Gameiro of Sevilla, though there is a chance they would get neither.

Sport says Gameiro is Luis Enrique's #1 man, and that Barcelona have made a strong offer to sign the Frenchman. Initially, Sport was making it out like Gameiro-to-Barcelona was a done deal, but now they're saying Atletico Madrid are making a play to swoop in and take Gameiro. Their offer apparently would include Vietto going to Sevilla plus money in exchange for Gameiro. The report says it will be up to Gameiro to choose which team he will sign for. If he were to choose Atletico, Barcelona would be left with neither Gameiro nor Vietto.

MD is adamant that Vietto has signed for Barcelona, and they treat it as a given that he will start in place of Neymar as the Brazilian plays in the Rio Olympics.

So what will it be - Vietto, Gameiro, or someone else? We'll find out soon.

Report: Barcelona, Atlético Madrid agree deal for Luciano Vietto transfer

Barcelona's spectacular summer transfer window is getting even better, as a new signing is very close to being a reality.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants have agreed a deal with Atlético Madrid for the permanent transfer of Argentine striker Luciano Vietto. The two clubs already have an agreement; only the player and Barça need to work out a few details before a five-year contract is announced. Barça will pay a €22 million fee to complete the transfer.

Vietto is one of the most promising young strikers in La Liga. He arrived in Spain two years ago after fantastic performances with Racing Club in Argentina, and his debut season for Villarreal was a success. Vietto became an instant starter and a fan favorite, and scored 12 goals in his first campaign in Europe. His performances for the Yellow Submarine earned him a transfer to Atlético Madrid.

However, Vietto was never able to replicate at the Colchoneros what he did with Villarreal. He struggled to find a place in the starting team thanks to a monster season by Antoine Griezmann and a career revival by Fernando Torres. Diego Simeone isn't know for rotating his squad too much and likes to use his starters in most games, which meant very few minutes for Vietto.

Barça coach Luis Enrique asked for Vietto's signing since last season, but the Catalans were beaten in the race by Atleti. The interest was still alive all season, and now Lucho finally gets his backup to the 'MSN' trio. Vietto is fast striker with great scoring prowess, and looks like a perfect backup and replacement to Luis Suárez.

The deal is still not done as Vietto also has interest from Jorge Sampaoli and Sevilla, but he seems very close to joining the Catalans. Hopefully the deal goes through and this amazing transfer window gets even better. Well done, Barça board. Well done.

The FC Barcelona first team has continued with its first week back at training, albeit without the internationals, who are still away on their respective vacations. But those members of the squad that are available were all in attendance on Saturday morning at the Ciutat Esportiva for a nother session on the Tito Vilanova field.

The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder André Gomes, who will be making the move to FC Barcelona following a late-night deal with Valencia CF on Thursday, will become the seventh player from Spain's western neighbour to play for the Catalan club.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are said to have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Luciano Vietto. Mundo Deportivo reports only minor details need to be settled on the €22m deal and those are with Vietto himself, the clubs coming to an entente over the Argentina international.
Ivan Rakitic is expected to stay at Barcelona and has the support of Luis Enrique for a new contract promised by President Josep Maria Bartomeu. Barca’s surprise signing of Valencia’s Andre Gomes, and a tweet from an agent who had represented Rakitic in the past which suggested it was time for the Croatian to leave Camp Nou, led to speculation over the 28-year-old’s future.
