The club has fired three coaches in quick succession

FC Barcelona has spent a lot of money since the beginning of last year simply in hiring and then firing managers. The club has spent more than 30 million euro on paying certain clauses to switch between four managers: Ernesto Valverde, Quique Setién, Ronald Koeman and now Xavi Hernández,

That was simply to rescind contracts - and it’s not counting the coaches’ salary.

Valverde was owed 11 million euro after being fired in January 2020, although it was reported he would forgive some of that money, however.

Setién was then hired, although fired just a few months later. Cutting his contract short cost another four million.

Then president Josep Maria Bartomeu hired Ronald Koeman, paying five million euro to the Netherlands’ federation, the team that had him under contract.

Firing him cost 12 million, and then, in order to hire Xavi, Barcelona will pay an additional 5 million to Al-Sadd.

That adds up to 37 million, quite the large sum over two years. Barcelona has been going through a financial crisis in which the club relied on free transfers and did not pay any money in transfer fees apart for nine million for Emerson (who was then sold for a higher fee) and a small sum for Demir.
