The saga takes a fresh twist
Al-Sadd have issued a fresh statement on Xavi’s future at the club amid intense speculation Barcelona are about to seal a deal to bring the club legend home.
Vice president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany are in Doha for talks but the Qatari side still reckon that Xavi is going nowhere.
The club have put out a statement on social media where CEO Turki Al-Ali states that the time is not right for Xavi to leave.
Turki Al-Ali: The club's position is clear from the beginning - we are committed to keeping our coach Xavi with us and we cannot have him leave at this sensitive time of the season.#AlSadd

It’s an unexpected move from Al Sadd with the latest rumors suggesting a deal to bring Xavi back home was almost done and just a “matter of time.”
Barcelona are set to complete the agreement with Xavi and Al-Sadd, confirmed. It’s matter of time.

There’s already speculation it’s a way of trying to get Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who has not travelled to Doha, to fly to Qatar and join the negotiations.
Xavi has a contract with Al Sadd until 2023 but it’s thought that the 41-year-old has now decided the time is right to head home to the Camp Nou. It’s been reported he has already agreed a deal that will see him paid less at Barcelona than at Al Sadd and will sign on for the rest of the current campaign and two more seasons.
