The manager has defended his club
Ernesto Valverde was adamant Barcelona did nothing wrong in selecting Chumi for the first leg of their Copa del Rey clash against Levante.
Barcelona won the tie 4-2 on aggregate, but Levante have confirmed their intention to complain to the RFEF about Barca using Chumi in the first leg amid claims he should have suspended.
Valverde addressed the issue after the match and said his club are in no doubt they are in the clear.
“There were never any doubts about [playing] Chumi, none. We did everything right,” he said.
”We will be in the draw for the quarter-final. We have no doubts, not before, not during and not now. We have the security of knowing we did everything right.
“We knew that Chumi was banned and not available for [the La Liga] game against Eibar, but he could play in the cup. We’re convinced we acted correctly. Absolutely. We’ve won where we had to win to progress: on the pitch.”

Levante’s decision to contact the RFEF over the matter means there is a risk Barca could be kicked out of the competition, but as it stands they will go into the quarter-final draw later today.
