Monaco's vice-president made clear that the pre-contract is broken and the French club is not going to sign former Barça GK, Victor Valdés
These are tough times for Victor Valdes.
One year ago, Valdés announced he was not going to sign any sort of extension and was leaving FC Barcelona when his contract ended in June 30 of 2014. Around Januray, Valdés and AS Monaco signed a pre-contract that almost guaranteed that the transfer was going to happen at the end of this season.
Then, came the tragic ACL tear on his right knee back in April, that took him out of the Spain squad for the World Cup (he was highly considered to be the starter in Brazil) and out of any football activity for at least six months. After what happened, rumours started to grow about the possibility of Monaco not moving on with the talks because of this injury.
On Wednesday, Valdés went to Monaco for medical testing required by the French club. The tests didn't go very well, and that led Monaco to officially announce they will break their pre-contract and Valdés won't join them.
Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco's football vice-president, delivered the news in an interview on Thursday. "Unfortunately, we were negotiating with Valdés, but he is injured, so we're not able to move on with any talks. He won't join us." Vasilyev also said that Monaco will stick to Danijel Subasic, the starter from last season, as the goalie moving forward, and the club will not pursue another GK. "Danijel had a good season and our manager believes in him", he said.
Now, Valdés will have to find a new landing spot. He's not going back to Barça, that's a fact. He doesn't want to and Barça already have Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo as their GKs for next year. There are rumours about a possible move to Liverpool, but nothing official has been said regarding those talks.
As of right now, Valdés has nowhere to go. Sad thing, VV. You know we'll always love you for what you did.
