The midfielder is learning a lot from his coach
Fermin Lopez has given a new interview after making his first start for Barcelona against Granada on Sunday.
The youngster has enjoyed a promising start to the season and will be hopeful of more first-team minutes as the campaign progresses.
Lopez says Xavi in particular has helped him adjust to life in the first team and revealed the nuggets of advice he’s been given by the club legend.
“Xavi and the staff helped me a lot from the first day, especially in the first match. He was one of the best midfielders in history and in all aspects of the game, control and defence. I learn a lot from him and his staff,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“What does Xavi ask from me? He asks not to lose balls, to play between the lines, to look at where the opponent is at all times, and to look for spaces. Personally, he asks me to shoot from outside the box, and to play my football. Nothing more.”
Lopez is now with Spain’s Under-21s for fixtures over the international break. The team are due to face Kazakhstan and on Tuesday in Euro qualifying.
