La Liga: FC Barcelona 4-0 Real Sociedad: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's comfortable win against La Real in La Liga.

Claudio Bravo
7.8
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 63
Passes: 39
Pass Accuracy: 85%
Shots Faced: 2
Saves Made: 2
Clearances: 1

Bostjan says: 7.5

One of the toughest jobs for goalkeepers in Barcelona’s goal is to stay concentrated the entire 90 minutes as they are often left without work for large stretches of the game. Bravo did a good job at that as even though he only had to face two shots he remained on his game. Bravo was especially active coming off the line to collect deep passes and deal with crosses from the wide areas. Picked up his fourth clean sheet in a row.

Dani Alves
8.8
Minutes played: 61
Touches: 43
Passes: 31
Pass Accuracy: 81%
Key Passes: 2
Turnovers: 3
Tackles: 3
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Clearances: 1
Aerial Duels Won: 0
Interceptions: 1

Bostjan says: 8.5

Arguably one of Alves’ best showing of the season as he once again looked his best. Not only did Alves looke excellent in attack, where he not only provided width as he usually does but also supplied two perfect passes to the middle that were converted into goals. There were still some unnecessary turnovers in attack, but Alves’ resurgence is encouraging. The Brazilian even made a few good defensive plays which is always nice to see.

Gerard Pique
7.5
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 80
Passes: 68
Pass Accuracy: 87%
Tackles: 0
Interceptions: 0
Clearances: 5
Aerial Duels Won: 0
Turnovers: 1

Bostjan says: 7.5

The only defender to play the full 90 minutes, Pique didn’t have much to do. He made a few very solid defensive plays, including a few very important clearances. Pique was very active in play build and was the player that made more passes than anybody on the pitch. It wasn’t a performance without mistakes though as one of this turnovers almost led to an easy Sociedad chance.

Javier Mascherano
7.3
Minutes played: 68
Touches: 52
Passes: 44
Pass Accuracy: 98%
Tackles: 0
Interceptions: 1
Clearances: 1
Aerial Duels Won: 0
Fouls: 2

Bostjan says: 7.0

Mascherano was tasked with the difficult job of marking Imanol Agirretxe. The Argentine might not have been tested much in the 69 minutes he spent on the pitch, but he did his job quietly effective. Made his job look easy as he on numerous occasions won possession back for Barcelona to start new attacks. Made a couple unnecessary fouls that gave the opponents a chance from free kicks.

Jeremy Mathieu
7.5
Minutes played: 65
Touches: 44
Passes: 35
Pass Accuracy: 71%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 1
Interceptions: 0
Clearances: 2
Key Passes: 1
Turnovers: 3

Bostjan says: 7.0

To say that Mathieu had a slow start to the game would be an understatement. He basically didn’t make a positive play the entire first half, even missing wide open players in the box on a couple of occasions. The second half was a big improvement, as he not only made a strong defensive play quickly after the restart to stop a counter attack, but also picked up an assist with a well-timed run and pass to the middle for Neymar’s second.

Sergio Busquets
8.1
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 74
Passes: 61
Pass Accuracy: 87%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Tackles: 6
Interceptions: 4
Clearances: 1
Turnovers: 1
Aerial Duels Won: 1
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 1

Sam says: 8.0

Put in a very good defensive performance that stopped Real Sociedad from getting at the Barça defence. Made six tackles and four interceptions while only Gerard Piqué completed more passes. Often looked to supply the ball to Iniesta or one of the front three as he switched Barça from defence to attack as quickly as possible.

Ivan Rakitić
7.3
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 54
Passes: 41
Pass Accuracy: 76%
Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0
Turnovers: 2
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 2
Tackles: 2

Sam says: 7.0

Slowly but surely, Rakitić is getting back to the player of last season but he still needs to have more of an influence on the game. In this game, he had just 54 touches while his midfield teammates both had over 70 and he didn’t manage to make any clear cut chances for his teammates. However, his ball retention was good and he helped Barça to control the midfield.

Andres Iniesta
8.2
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 72
Passes: 56
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Shots/Shots on Target: 1/0
Fouls Won: 1
Turnovers: 2
Successful Dribbles: 0
Key Passes: 0
Tackles: 3

Sam says: 8.0

A very good performance from Iniesta as he linked play all across the field through accurate passing and well timed dribbles. Unlucky not to score after getting on the end of a Suárez pass but his effort hit the post. Also did good defensive work with the three tackles and three interceptions. Passing wise, he was very good with an accuracy of 93%.

Lionel Messi
8.6
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 50
Passes: 34
Pass Accuracy: 78%
Shots/Shots on Target: 6/2
Turnovers: 0
Successful Dribbles: 5
Key Passes: 0
Fouls Won: 2
Interceptions: 1

Sonia says: 8.0

Messi started off the match as his magical, godly self; there was nothing new to report there. He showed off his dribbling, which is the best in the world, as to be expected from the GOAT. Messi created chances all night for his teammates, but was frustrated as he seemed unable to get on the scoresheet. However, he did end up getting a goal late in the match. Ultimately, his night was not an overly sensational one, but it was still one very

Luis Suarez
8.7
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 38
Passes: 28
Pass Accuracy: 68%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/2
Fouls Won: 3
Successful Dribbles: 2
Key Passes: 1
Turnovers: 2
Interceptions: 1

Sonia says: 8.5

The second golazo of the match came from Suarez; he scored his excellent goal with a lovely volley. Throughout the match, he had some nice moves as well. Some of Suarez’s passes did leave something to be desired, however, most were just fine. Suarez put in a nice performance; though it was maybe not amongst his very best, there is not much to be complaining about especially considering that he ended up on the scoresheet.

Neymar
9.5
Minutes played: 90
Touches: 73
Passes: 46
Pass Accuracy: 83%
Shots/Shots on Target: 2/2
Successful Dribbles: 6
Key Passes: 6
Fouls Won: 3
Turnovers: 4
Interceptions: 1

Sonia says: 9.0

Neymar was the first to get on the scoresheet and opened with a nice goal. His key passes were excellent all night as well. Later, in the second half, Neymar got his second goal in the net for the third goal of the match. At this point, Barca had already won the match, however, Neymar devoted himself to being the best sidekick to Messi he could be. Throughout the second half, Neymar dedicated himself to getting Messi on the scoresheet as well. Neymar is many things, but selfish is not one of them; he may have started out as one of the most selfish players at Barca, but now he is one of the most selfless.

Adriano Correia 6.7
Minutes played: 29
Touches: 19
Passes: 17
Pass Accuracy: 69%
Successful Dribbles: 2

Kevin says: 6.5

Adriano entered the field in the 62nd minute in place of Dani Alves, who to the delight of all had actually found Barça players with his crosses and provided two assists. Not an awful lot asked of the brittle-bone, injury-prone Brazilian. Has been getting minutes this week perhaps in preparation for the crunch New Year period when the manager will need to count on all of his squad. Solid, if not remarkable.

Jordi Alba
6.9
Minutes played: 25
Touches: 19
Passes: 15
Pass Accuracy: 93%
Turnovers: 2

Kevin says: 6.5

Simple enough run out for Alba. Sociedad were 3 down at this point. Was his usual marauding self going forward and was not caught out defensively.

Marc Bartra
6.7
Minutes played: 22
Touches: 15
Passes: 14
Pass Accuracy: 79%
Aerial Duels Won: 1

Kevin says: 6.5

Mascherano was withdrawn with 21 left on the clock and replaced with Bartra. The Catalan has not played anywhere near enough minutes of late which is likely to grate when he looks at the successes his good friend Sergi has been having, especially with him having been considered, until recently at least, the lesser talent of the two. A couple of hairy moments with Bravo but overall Bartra was solid and needs more game time if he is to actually impress. Hard to see that happening with the form the back 4 have been in of late.

The Team 8.8
Passes: 552
Pass Accuracy: 83%
Shots/Shots on Target: 11/6
Tackles: 15
Aerial Battles Won: 46%
Fouls Won/Committed: 14/11

Sonia says: 9.0

The team put in a very good performance against Real Sociedad. It may not be one that is remembered as amongst the best at the end of the season, but it was still fantastic. The team destroyed Real Sociedad with a 4-0 scoreline, with all three of MSN getting goals in. Barca is continuing to dominate, and the match gave no evidence of the team slowing down.

Luis Enrique
8.6

Kevin says: 8.0

3 big games, 14 goals scored and only 1 conceded. The manager spoke about addressing defensive problems recently and his charges are starting to look pretty mean once again. Gave some of the more fringe players a run out, will be pleased by a clean sheet and the usual mix of diligence and creativity from his midfielders.

MOTM - Neymar
62%

Bostjan says: Neymar

With two goals and an assist Neymar is back to winning Man of the Match awards. Coming in second place was, after a long absence from the top three, was Alves with two assists and 16% of the votes. Placing in third was Messi with 13%.
