Spain sit top of Group E ahead of the final round of group fixtures after opening up with a 7-0 thrashing of Costa Rica and a 1-1 draw with Germany.
La Roja finish off their group campaign against Japan and just need a point to make it through. However, it’s an interesting group as all four teams can still progress to the knockout stages.
What do Spain need?
Spain will definitely progress if they avoid defeat to Japan. If Spain beat the Samurai Blue they will progress as group winners. La Roja will also finish top if they draw and Costa Rica draw or lose to Germany.
Luis Enrique’s side can still go out. If they lose to Japan and Costa Rica beat Germany then it’s curtains for Luis Enrique’s side.
If Spain lose to Japan and Germany beat Costa Rica then Japan will win the group. Spain and Germany will be level on points and second spot will be decided on goal difference and goals scored.
Who could Spain play?
Spain will play either Croatia, Belgium or Morocco in the last 16 from Group F. Canada have already been eliminated but the other three nations can still make it through.
Croatia and Morocco top the group on four points, with Belgium one point behind. The final round of fixtures sees Croatia take on Belgium, while Morocco will face off against Canada.
The teams will find out who they are playing next on Thursday when both groups conclude.
What does Luis Enrique think?
Luis Enrique has admitted he’s thought about trying to engineer a second-placed finish but it’s too risky.
“It’s a great question, because we’ve thought about it too,” he said.
“But imagine we want to finish second, we get to the 90th minute and it’s 0-0 in the two games, and in the 95th minute with 15 seconds left, Japan and Costa Rica both score. You gambled, and you’re out.
“Or imagine Germany are 5-0 up, we’re looking for a draw, and Japan score and we’re out. When you’re convinced that you have a very good team and you want to play seven games [to get to the final], it isn’t about finishing second.
“We want to finish first. If we play Brazil in the quarterfinals, great, we’ll play Brazil. But we won’t count our chickens before they’ve hatched.”

Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff has admitted he’s been monitoring Mohammed Kudus who has impressed at the World Cup with Ghana.
Kudus scored twice against South Korea last time out and Cruyff admits he’s been following the youngster for some time now.
“I saw him play a year ago and have followed his progress at Ajax,” he said. “But we’re not at the point of saying ‘Barca want this player,’ not at all.”
“He is a player that has caught the attention with his performances and goals at the World Cup. He’s caught my attention especially because there is a debate in the Netherlands about his position, whether he’s an advanced midfielder or a forward.”
Source | Cadena SER
Barcelona clearly aren’t thinking about signing Kudus at the moment but it’s interesting to see Cruyff openly admitting the Ajax man has caught his eye.
Kudus may well be in demand after the World Cup. The tournament can be something of a shop window and it would be no surprise if he has attracted new admirers already.

The rumor mill has claimed he could return to Italy
Franck Kessie’s agent has once again come out and hit back at speculation the midfielder is thinking of leaving Barcelona already.
Recent rumors have claimed Kessie could head back to Italy and sign for Inter after failing to impress in the early months of his Barca career.
George Atangana has told Calciomercato that is not the case and Kessie is happy at the Camp Nou.
“Franck has never been as happy as he is now,” he said. “He achieved an objective that for many remains only a dream, that of being able to play for Barcelona. I challenge anyone to say otherwise.
“This opportunity arrived after Franck proved himself over seven years in Italy. Franck has grown and matured, earning praise, so the call from Barcelona was a consequence of all that.”
Kessie’s agent also insisted that the midfielder thought it might take time to adapt to life at Barcelona and really isn’t thinking about Serie A.
“We had predicted it would take a while to settle and get into a different playing style he was not accustomed to, but this certainly doesn’t frighten me. It is motivation to keep doing better all the time,” he added.
“When I read certain stories, it feels like science fiction. Franck is not a player offering himself against any club in Italy or elsewhere.
“I also want to clarify once and for all that there is no planned departure from Barcelona, so consequently a return to Milan is unlikely.”
The summer signing will be hoping he can make an impact in the second half of the season at Barcelona. Kessie is currently still recovering from a hamstring injury picked up against Viktoria Plzen.

Marc Cucurella joined Chelsea just last summer, but a return home has certainly crossed his mind. After a high-profile £63m move from Brighton in the summer, Cucurella has failed to really shine at Stamford Bridge. Very similar to Franck Kessie at Barcelona, a talented player who just hasn’t quite fit into the system yet.
In an interview with Catalunya Radio, the Spaniard was asked about playing at Barcelona and his thoughts on not getting to play for them when he was here.
“I didn’t get the chance to really play for Barcelona and I’ve always been gutted about that,” he said.
“In the end, if I had the chance in future, I would value it, it would be very nice.”

WELCOME TO DAY 11 OF THE 2022 WORLD CUP!!! The end of the group stage is only three days away, and the decisive games are coming thick and fast in Qatar as we prepare for what promises to be an incredible knockout stage.
Four teams qualified on Tuesday and we already have two Round of 16 matchups as the Netherlands and United States face off on Saturday while England and Senegal will play for a spot in the quarterfinals on Sunday. Two more groups will be decided today, and the fate of Barça players and legends will be on the line in what will be an amazing Day 11.
We begin with the conclusion of Group D, as France take on Tunisia in Doha having already qualified and needing just one point to clinch top spot. Ousmane Dembélé and Jules Kounde have proven to be key pieces of this side and will probably be rested for this one, as manager Didier Deschamps is expected to heavily rotate his squad for the group finale against a Tunisia side that needs a miracle to qualify.
The game that truly matters in this group is between Australia and Denmark, who face off in Al Wakrah with everything on the line. Despite their loss to France in Matchday 2 the Danes still control their destiny, and Andreas Christensen’s side will qualify with a victory while the Socceroos know they’ll advance with a draw. This will be a tense battle, and Denmark’s talented attacking players need to play much better than they have so far to give their team a chance to win and finish second.
The late window brings us the much-anticipated finish of an incredible Group C, which has been by far the one with the most surprises and thrilling games in the tournament. All four teams are still alive, and there are several different scenarios that could shock all of us.
The biggest game of the World Cup so far takes place in Doha between Poland and Argentina, with Robert Lewandowski facing Lionel Messi with their World Cup futures on the line. After their shocking loss to Saudi Arabia in the opener the Albiceleste got back on track with a narrow win over Mexico, but the job is not done as they need another victory to qualify. A point is enough for Poland to advance, and if both games in the group end in a draw then both the Poles and the Argentines will move on.
The other clash is between Saudi Arabia and Mexico, and El Tri must win to have any chance of qualifying. Both teams will be rooting for Poland to beat Argentina to make their path easier, and goal difference will come into play to decide who advances in this group.
This promises to be an incredible day of World Cup action, and you’re welcome to join us to follow and comment all of it. Vamos!

A round-up of the latest Barcelona news and rumors
Memphis and Frenkie into the last 16 as group winners to play the USA - FC Barcelona
The Netherlands national team, including blaugranes Memphis and Frenkie de Jong, have made it to the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. A 2-0 victory for the Dutch over hosts Qatar left them top of Group A ahead of second placed Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar.
Inter Milan to make January move for Barcelona midfielder Kessie - SPORT
Franck Kessie remains highly rated in Italy and there are several clubs interested in signing him if he decides to leave Barcelona. 'Calciomercato.com' assures that Inter Milan will move for him in the January window and are trying to convince the player to return to Serie A with the promise of regular football.
Newcastle to beat Barcelona to signing of young Brazilian midfielder - SPORT

The Catalan club had been interested Santos but Newcastle, according to 'The Northern Echo', are in advanced negotiations to sign the young star and will try to close the deal in the coming weeks.
The truth about Barça's interest in Palmeiras youngster Endrick - SPORT
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández, in an exclusive interview with ESPN, heated up the 'Endrick operation' at a time when the Catalan club cannot go for the pearl of Palmeiras because of their financial situation. The 16-year-old Brazilian No.9 can only move in 2024, too, when he turns 18.
The reason Barcelona feel Uruguay are partly responsible for Ronald Araujo injury - Football España
Reports have repeatedly surfaced over recent weeks of a disconnect between the Uruguayan FA (AUF) and Barcelona, as they clash over the fitness of Ronald Araujo. The central defender suffered a muscle injury against Iran in September, which then required surgery. He was set to be out for 2-3 months, but aware of the player’s desire to attend the World Cup, Araujo was given permission to carry out his recovery with the Uruguayan national team.

Sergio Busquets has opened up on his future amid speculation he is set to leave Barcelona when his contract expires at the end of the season and move to Inter Miami.
The captain has said once again that he has not made a decision on his future just yet but admits that he is tempted by the possibility of playing in MLS.
“I said it in the summer and I have said it at a press conference. I know it is my last year but I’m not ruling anything out: I have nothing signed,” he said.
“By February I would like to be clear and decide. I’ve always said that I like the United States, especially Miami, but I haven’t reached an agreement with any club. Or with other leagues.
“The first one who has to know will be my club. If I had decided, I would say.”
The rumor mill has claimed that Barcelona are pretty sure that Busquets will call it a day at the end of the season, even though Xavi would like him to renew for another season.

Barcelona sporting director Jordi Cruyff says the club know what they want to do in the January transfer window but acknowledged signings may be impossible.
The Catalans have been linked with a host of players as usual but may have to trim the squad before they can add any new signings.
Cruyff told TV3 that if Barcelona can make signing they know exactly who they want to bring to the Camp Nou.
“The rules are what they are for everyone and, therefore, if we cannot sign, we have to continue, but if something can be done suddenly, we are clear about what we want to do,” he said.
One player who has been tipped to depart is Memphis Depay. Cruyff says the Dutchman could have left in the summer and isn’t sure if he will go in January.
“Let’s see. In August he already had options to leave, but it didn’t happen. Now we have Lewandowski suspended for three games and if you then have an injury you still need something.”
Cruyff is also expecting a decision to be made on Sergio Busquets’s future soon.
“When he returns from the World Cup, with time, obviously there will be answers because the club also has to plan for the future,” he said. “(Busquets) deserves that respect, that he himself can decide how and when.”
The captain is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to MLS side Inter Miami.

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has been asked about the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona and made it clear he’d be more than happy to be reunited with the GOAT.
Messi’s future is making headlines during the World Cup with the rumor mill claiming he was off to Inter Miami and then deciding that actually he will stay in European football for a little while longer.
Xavi is in Qatar and has been asked about Messi and the possibility of a Barca return and came out with the following. “If Messi wants to, he can return to Barça at some point, sure. Who wouldn’t want to train him?”
La Liga president Javier Tebas has also been asked about Messi and played down the chances of the Argentina international heading back to La Liga.
“It depends on what Messi charges. Also that, first if he wants to leave PSG, second that PSG let him leave and third it depends on what he charges,” he said. “If all three are met and it is an amount that is within Barcelona’s financial control, he will sign. If it’s what he earned when he left, no. Impossible, he can only play for PSG with those amounts.”
Expect the Messi rumors to keep on coming until we finally find out where the GOAT will play his football next season.

Join us to follow and comment all the fun from Day 10 of the 2022 World Cup!
WELCOME TO DAY 10 OF THE 2022 WORLD CUP! The group stage is fast approaching its end after a week and a half of brilliant action in Qatar, and today we’ll begin learning which 16 teams will face each other in the knockout stages.
Two groups will be decided on Day 10, and we no longer have the marathon of four matches in a row that we’ve been enjoying over the last week. Instead, games will be simultaneous as all four teams in a group play at the exact same time to decide their fate on Matchday 3.
We begin with the conclusion of Group A as Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay look to ensure the Netherlands advance to the Round of 16 against hosts Qatar, who are already eliminated but will try to give the home crowd a reason to be happy in what has been a pretty depressing group stage performance from them. The Dutch will qualify with a draw, but their position will be determined by the result of the other game.
And that other game is between Ecuador and Senegal who have fought to give themselves a chance ahead of the group finale, and the math is pretty simple: the winner is through, and Ecuador can also qualify with a draw. There is an unlikely scenario in which both qualify with a draw if Qatar beat the Dutch by three or more goals, but the only realistic option for Senegal is to win.
The later kickoffs will decide the fate of Group B, where everything is truly up for grabs. All four nations are still alive, and based on how the first two rounds of matches went it is hard to know which two sides are going through. The favorites are England, who need only a point against Wales to advance, but both teams can somehow qualify if Wales win and the other game ends in a draw.
It all comes down to the USA against Iran, with the winner going through regardless of what happens in the England-Wales clash. The United States fought hard to pick up two points and give themselves a real chance, and Iran’s shocking win over Wales has them in second place before kickoff. It’s truly impossible to predict how Group B will finish, and the two games promise to be real nail-biters.
This should be an amazing tenth day of World Cup action, and you’re welcome to join us to follow and comment all of it. Vamos!

The defender has been talking about his performances
Jules Kounde says he’s happy playing at right-back for France at the World Cup after taking over from Benjamin Pavard for Les Bleus.
The Barcelona defender has previously made it clear he prefers to play in the heart of the defense but says he’s happy to play on the right and is enjoying the competition with Pavard.
“It’s an absolutely healthy competition,” he said. “We of course to talk sometimes. We are each trying to bring our best for the team when we play and then it’s the coach who makes the decisions.
“I’ve always tried to do my best on the right, I never go there reluctantly, I’m improving, especially in attack, but I’m not reticent. On the left would be a whole other position, we’ll see what the coach decides. If I’m to play on the left then I’ll do my best.
“Playing with Ousmane helps me. We played a few matches together on the right flank. Defensively he was very impressive during the last match. I’m very happy to have his defensive support.”
France are already through to the last 16 after starting off with wins over Australia and Denmark. Les Bleus conclude their group campaign against Tunisia on Wednesday.

There’s always been chatter surrounding Ousmane Dembele, and some of it not too complimentary.
In this column previously, I’ve certainly been guilty of dwelling on the more negative aspects of his game.
But credit where it’s due.
The Frenchman has done a real job of late of shutting mouths. Including my own. Or at least shutting down any talk of the lightning fast wide man not being world class.
It’s abundantly clear that when Dembele is ‘on it,’ there aren’t many defenders that can live with him.
Yes, a little polish to his end product wouldn’t go amiss at times, but now isn’t the time to dissect that area of his game.
Much more preferable is to look at the improvement to his attitude, general demeanour and way of working of late.
Though the support and backing of Xavi Hernandez will have clearly been a real boon for the player, his own willingness to put his terrible start at Barca behind him can’t be overlooked. The reasons for the same appear obvious too.
“There has been three difficult seasons with Barcelona,” Dembele said recently.
“When you look at the first two games [I played in] 2018 and this year there is a lot of difference.
“I have matured. I didn’t have a healthy lifestyle as you can imagine, [though] it wasn’t a party! But I’m a little older now, [at] 25.”
Indeed, his performances for both club and country are more consistently excellent and that bodes well.
In two years’ time, Dembele will, theoretically, be at or approaching his peak. It bodes the genuine question as to just how much better he can get because he’s already unplayable in most games.
“He has improved with the day-to-day demands of Barcelona. I see him in a much better place,” France coach, Didier Deschamps, said.
“The fact he started the first game is proof he has the incredible ability to damage opposing defences. I see him more mature and complete.”
Given how well Les Bleus have been playing in Qatar, it isn’t a stretch to believe that France could well retain their World Cup title on December 18.
Even going deep into the competition will be seen as a positive, and we should expect Ousmane Dembele to hit the ground running upon his return to Catalonia, spearheading Barca’s charge towards the league title.

Sergino Dest is reportedly growing increasingly confident he can persuade AC Milan to sign him permanently from Barcelona at the end of the season.
The USMNT defender hasn’t enjoyed the best start to life with the Rossoneri, and has only made one Serie A start, but thinks he can turn things around.
Dest is said to be “increasingly convinced of his own qualities” and seems to have been given a confidence boost by starting both of the USMNT’s games at World Cup 2022.
The full-back now “wants to convince Milan to invest 20 million euros to buy him from Barcelona,” according to Calciomercato.
Dest’s loan deal includes a purchase option and you suspect Barcelona would be happy for the former Ajax man to leave permanently due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.
The defender is currently at World Cup 2022 and will be hoping to progress to the knockout stages with the Stars and Stripes.

Lionel Messi is being tipped to stay in European football “at least until 2024” following speculation about a potential move to Inter Miami.
The Sunday Times reported that Messi was close to agreeing a deal with the MLS side, but his representative has since come out and described the rumor as “fake news.”
The latest update on Messi comes from Sky Sports who reckon the GOAT “is expected to stay in European football at least until 2024” despite interest from Inter Miami.
Messi’s first option is apparently staying at PSG past the end of the season when his current contract expires at the Parc des Princes.
The report states Messi “believes he still has more years left in him at the top European level, having settled and impressed further in his second season at PSG.”
A possible return to Barcelona is also mentioned but it’s not clear yet if the Catalans have the finances or indeed whether Messi wants to return for a second stint.
Moving to MLS does appear to be on Messi’s agenda but such a transfer is said to be unlikely to happen until “2024 or even 2025.”

Germany players are reportedly hoping Spain will do them a favor in the final round of fixtures in Group E at the World Cup.
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday which leaves Luis Enrique’s needing just a point to qualify from their final game against Japan.
However, Germany have told Spain players to go and beat the Samurai Blue which will, of course, help Die Mannschaft’s chances of progressing to the last 16.
Diario Sport reckon that after Sunday’s draw Antonio Rudiger went looking for Real Madrid team-mate Dani Carvajal and told him: “Now go and beat Japan.”
Spain’s Dani Olmo also admitted he’d received the same message from Germany players. “We will do it because we always go out with this idea,” he added.
Germany are bottom of the group with one point and need to beat Costa Rica and hope Spain see off Japan in order to guarantee second place.
If Spain draw with Japan then Germany can still go through but need to beat Costa Rica by at least two goals. A one-goal margin may also be enough providing Germany score more than Japan do against Spain.
And don’t forget that Costa Rica aren’t out of it either. A shock victory over Japan has given the team hope of progressing despite being hammered by Spain in their opener.

WELCOME TO DAY 9 OF THE 2022 WORLD CUP!!! We are into the second week of group stage action in Qatar, and things are really starting to take shape as we get closer and closer to the knockout stages.
The ninth day of games brings us a few of the favorites looking to book an early spot in the Round of 16, and a couple of crucial matches that could change everything ahead of the final round.
We begin in Al Wakrah with a decisive encounter between Cameroon and Serbia, the two losers of the opening round of games in Group G. Both teams looked solid despite the defeats and have plenty of talent, and the winner will be right back in the fight for a place in the knockouts with three points in this one.
Up next is the metting between South Korea and Ghana in Doha, and after picking up a valuable point against Uruguay in the opening match the Koreans could take a massive step towards a spot in the Round of 16 if they can find a way to beat Ghana, who gave Portugal all they could handle despite the loss in the opener and will remain confident in their chances to get a result in this one and stay alive in the group.
Game 3 of Day 9 brings us Brazil against Switzerland as the two winners from the opening games in Group G face off in Doha in a crucial game. Both teams looked strong in their debut wins and Brazil will likely be without the injured Neymar, so this promises to be a tight, intense contest and the Swiss are more than capable of pulling off the upset.
The last game is a big one between Portugal and Uruguay in Al Daayen, and the Celeste badly need a result in this one to avoid what would be a shocking group stage exit for one of the most talented squads in the tournament. Barça legend Luis Suárez is Uruguay’s big hope for the upset, and Portugal showed against Ghana that they are vulnerable and could easily find themselves on the wrong side in this one.
This should be another very fun day in the World Cup, and you’re welcome to join us to follow and comment all the action. Vamos!

Lionel Messi’s future continues to be in the headlines with a report over the weekend claiming the GOAT was close to agreeing a move to Inter Miami at the end of the season when he’s a free agent.
However, those rumors have been quickly quashed by Messi’s ‘representative’ Marcelo Mendez. He has told CNN that actually there are no talks with the MLS side right now.
“It’s false, it’s fake news. There is no negotiation for Lionel to join Inter Miami next season,” said Mendez.
Yet Mendez’s comments are unlikely to stop rumors about Messi’s future with several clubs hoping he’ll play for them next season. Inter Miami keep on being mentioned, Barca are thought to want Messi back and PSG are hoping he’ll stay for a bit longer.
It’s been previously reported that Messi won’t make a decision until after the World Cup where he’s currently featuring for Argentina. La Albiceleste aren’t yet through to the knockout stages but can book their place in the last 16 on Wednesday when they face Poland.

Jordi Alba felt Spain did a good job against Germany despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Hansi Flick’s side on Sunday.
Spain took the lead through Alvaro Morata but were denied victory when Niclas Fullkrug struck to earn Germany their first point.
Alba shared his thoughts after the game and is already looking forward to taking on Japan.
“It was a balanced game, as both teams dominated. In the first half we had good chances to score and in the end the goal came when I put a ball in for Morata,” he said.
“The equalizer came from an unfortunate play. Now to continue and think about winning against Japan. Confidence is intact. A good job has been done and this is the line to follow. Now to play the third game and win it to go through as group winners.”
Spain only need a point to progress but we should be set for an exciting finish to the group after Costa Rica shocked Japan earlier in the day.

Spain boss Luis Enrique defended Barcelona duo Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets after the team’s 1-1 draw with Germany at the World Cup on Sunday.
Both players have come in for criticism this season but remain key players for Luis Enrique, with Jordi Alba picking up an assist for Alvaro Morata’s goal on Sunday.
The Spain boss spoke about the duo after the match and explained why he continues to count on both veterans.
“Alba is a player of the highest level, just like Busi, it’s a campaign and it’s normal, people get tired of veterans,” he said.
“I bring them because they are spectacular. Jordi Alba is the best winger in the world in the last third of the field, just like Busi, they have been trying to retire him for many years. Hopefully we will convince him to follow another World Cup.”
Luis Enrique also spoke about his team’s performance and how he wants Spain to go all out in their final group match against Japan.
“When I watch the game afterward, I’ll like it better,” he said. “Especially this one. I saw a first half that was perhaps better, but we lacked a little bit of confidence to realise that we could hurt Germany more. We couldn’t control the game and they caught us with a mistake. We were ambitious until the end and I’ll be happy to see that tomorrow.
“I liked the attitude we had of going out to win the game. We will go out to win against Japan and we want to go through as group winners.”
Spain take on Japan in their final group fixture on Thursday.

The marquee matchup of the group stage could see La Roja through and the Germans sent home
The marquee matchup of the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage is here: this Sunday night at the Al Bay Stadium in Al Khor, Spain and Germany face off in the second round of matches in Group E. And if this was already a big deal before the tournament started, things have gotten even bigger now.
It all started on Wednesday afternoon in Qatar when Germany surrendered a one-goal lead and lost in shocking fashion to Japan, and just three hours later Spain were putting the finishing touches on a masterful 7-0 win over Costa Rica in their opening match.
Germany’s awful loss combined with La Roja’s sensational victory have made this scenario a reality: if Spain win on Sunday night and Japan pick up at least a point in the early kickoff against Costa Rica, the almighty Germans will be knocked out of the World Cup with one group stage game to spare, a truly remarkable embarrassment for one of the biggest favorites coming into this tournament.
And for head coach Luis Enrique and his Barcelona-led troops of ultra-talented footballers, a place in the Round of 16 is at stake along with the chance of sending the Germans home. Spain are the obvious favorites given their incredible showing four days ago, but the Mannschaft will be desperate for a result and this promises to be a tense and intense affair.
At least five Barça players are expected to headline the Spain lineup again, with the midfield trio of Sergio Busquets, Gavi and Pedri always crucial to the team’s success. This promises to be an amazing 90-minute battle with everything on the line, and we could be in for a strong Game of the Tournament contender.
Let’s dance.

The race for Brazilian sensation Endrick is hotting up, with Barcelona coach Xavi admitting over the weekend that the Catalans have been in talks with the teenager about a future move.
Real Madrid and PSG have also been linked with the attacker and Palmeiras are said to be rubbing their hands together with glee as the list of admirers gets longer, according to Relevo.
Endrick is contracted to the club until 2025 which means the Brazilian side are in a strong position when it comes to negotiating a hefty transfer fee.
All of which is bad news for Barcelona. Palmeiras are said to want €70-80m in cash for Endrick, and Barca can’t afford to spend that sort of money now and hope the teenager fulfils his promise.
Barcelona also need to sign a replacement for Sergio Busquets and as such the club are said to have “little hope” that Endrick will end up moving to the Camp Nou, despite Xavi’s recent comments and claim that’s he’s a player the club needs.
PSG are said to be leading the race to sign Endrick at the moment and are thought to be already negotiating with Palmeiras. Chelsea and Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the teenager but haven’t made moves yet.

Robert Lewandowski scored his first World Cup goal against Saudi Arabia and has spoken about how much the goal means to him.
The Barcelona striker struck in a 2-0 win that keeps Poland’s hopes of qualification to the knockout stages alive.
Here’s what he made ot if all:
“I think the older I get the more emotional I get, and I’m aware when it comes to World Cups it might be my last one actually,” the 34-year-old said.
“After I scored, everything that I had inside – the dreams and also the importance of the goal, and how I scored – all those dreams from childhood were fulfilled and came true.”
Lewandowski and Poland finish off their group campaign against Lionel Messi’s Argentina side who beat Mexico on Saturday.
Poland just need a point to make it throught to the last 16, while La Albiceleste will qualify if they take all three points.

Barcelona coach Xavi has offered his verdict on World Cup 2022 so far and admits he’s been impressed by Spain.
La Roja opened up their campaign in Qatar by hammering Costa Rica 7-0 which Xavi thinks was the best performance of the tournament so far.
“Spain is the team that has played the best, perhaps along with England in the first game, although England then only managed a draw against the United States,” he said.
“Spain are at the highest level right now. I also liked Brazil and France, but Spain showed a superiority that has not yet been seen in any other team,” added the Barça coach in Doha.
Luis Enrique’s side now face a tough test against Germany. Hansi Flick’s side lost their opening game against Japan and Xavi says they’ll be under pressure to get a result.
“Spain have to show the personality they had on the first day,” he said.
“It will be an even game, both will want the ball. It will be an important battle, but Germany start with much more pressure than Spain.”
Germany don’t have the best record against Spain. Die Mannschaft have won only one of their last seven against La Roja and were thrashed 6-0 when the teams last met in 2020.

Germany boss Hansi Flick has been full of praise for Barcelona midfielders Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Gavi ahead of Sunday’s World Cup showdown with Spain.
Die Mannschaft head into the match after a shock defeat to Japan, while Spain ran riot against Costa Rica in their opener.
Flick says he’s a big fan of Luis Enrique and knows his team face quality opposition on Sunday.
“I appreciate Luis Enrique very much. He has formed a young team with incredible quality. Unfortunately, my favorite player Thiago is not there, so you can tell how much quality they have. Busquets is the heart of the team. We’re really looking forward to the game,” he said.
“The quality that Gavi and Pedri have at this young age is fantastic. They have developed very well in Barcelona in the last two years. And now they have found their regular spot in the national team. They have Busquets behind them as protection. That works well.”
Germany could end up being knocked out on Sunday if results go against Flick’s men. If Spain win and Japan avoid defeat against Costa Rica then Germany will be heading home early for the second World Cup in a row.

Join us to follow and comment all the fun from Day 7 of the 2022 World Cup!
WELCOME TO DAY 7 OF THE WORLD CUP!!! The first week of play in Qatar has been full of fascinating games and results, and this is really shaping up to be a fantastic group stage with more and more surprises to come. The second round of games continues today, with plenty of Barcelona talent in action and four big games across two groups.
We begin in Group D with Tunisia and Australia in Al Wakrah, and after quite a strong performance and a valuable point against Denmark in the opener the Tunisians will feel like they have a real chance to reach the knockout stages if they can beat an Australian side that looked pretty hopeless against France in their first match.
Up next it’s time for Robert Lewandowski and Poland to start the action in Group C with a crucial meeting against Saudi Arabia, who pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history by beating Argentina and all of a sudden feel like they can go on a dream run. They’ll qualify with a win in this one, but Lewandowski and the Poles badly need three points after a draw with Mexico in which the Barça striker missed a crucial penalty.
Game 3 of Day 7 is a big one between France and Denmark, with Barça players on both sides as Jules Kounde and Ousmane Dembélé look to secure qualification with a win over Andreas Christensen and the Danes. Les Bleus looked amazing in their demolition of Australia, and will move on to the Round of 16 if they beat Denmark who will be desperate for a result to avoid a shocking early exit.
And then, the big one as Lionel Messi and Argentina try to recover from their shocking opening defeat in what is the biggest game of the tournament so far against Mexico. The Albiceleste will be eliminated with a loss regardless of what takes place in the Poland-Saudi Arabia clash, and even a point will mean huge trouble for Messi’s troops. Only a win matters, but Mexico have more than enough talent to shock the world and send the favorites home with a game to spare.
This could be one of the biggest, most consequential days in the entire World Cup, and you’re welcome to join us to follow and comment all the action. Vamos!

Matchday Thread Rules
We don’t have a lot of rules here, but there are a few things to keep in mind when joining our matchday threads:
Even if the referee sucks or we lose the game, watch the swearing. It’s just unnecessary. Also, don’t discuss illegal streaming links. Those who do it will be warned, and those who post links will be instantly banned. Finally, be nice to each other. This is a Barcelona community and we don’t need to offend one another.
Have fun with the game! Forever and ever, no matter the competition, VISCA EL BARÇA!

A decade or so ago, when ‘tiki taka’ was very much in vogue, the Spanish national team had a distinctly Barcelona flavour to it.
Indeed, La Roja danced to a blaugrana beat during what was, to date, their golden period.
Barca players were such a dominant presence under Vicente Del Bosque’s stewardship, that it was difficult to imagine a future Spain side that didn’t mirror the playing style of the Catalans.
With football squads both at club and international level seemingly working in cycles, it was only a matter of time before Barca would come to the fore on the world stage again, albeit with their players cloaked in the deep red of Spain.
Watching the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Ferran Torres and Alejandro Balde tearing Costa Rica apart was a total joy.
Not to mention the old experienced heads of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba calmly going about their excellent business.
With Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia yet to feature, former Barca coach, Luis Enrique, clearly has a plethora of decent options thanks to the Camp Nou production line.
It’s not appropriate to put them in the same class as their contemporaries, however, for the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique et al were at a different level.
That’s not to say that in the future Barca’s current crop can’t attain greatness on the international stage.
The surprise would be if they didn’t quite frankly.
Gavi, in particular, shone bright in front of a new worldwide audience of billions, showcasing the skill set that Barca fans have been drooling over these past few months. He and Pedri will be the axis on which Spain pivot for years.
They, as with others such as Fati and Balde, are going to be mainstays in a national side that is at the beginning of another truly exciting period.
The positive upshot from a Barcelona perspective are the further opportunities it gives the youngsters to play together, honing their on-pitch understanding in the process. That’s priceless experience.
So far in this World Cup only Spain have truly impressed. Other national sides have shown flashes of brilliance but not much more than that.
On the evidence of their Costa Rica cakewalk, Luis Enrique’s side will take some stopping in Qatar.
The confidence gained could roll over into the domestic season, handing Xavi a massive advantage for the second half of the 2022/23 La Liga campaign.

Pablo Torre had been expected to feature for Barca Atletic during the World Cup but will sit out Saturday’s game against Numancia because of an ankle injury.
The midfielder featured as a late substitute for Spain Under-21s against Japan last week which meant he missed Barca Atletic’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club B.
Torre had been expected to return to action this week but is struggling with an ankle injury and doesn’t want to risk making the problem worse, according to Relevo.
Rafa Marquez therefore won’t call up Torre for this weekend’s match, but there is a chance he could feature soon as Barca Atletic have a packed schedule coming up.
Marquez’s side play Intercity, Eldense, Gimnastic, and Real Union before Christmas which should offer Torre the chance for some much-needed minutes.
There’s also a chance he could play for the first team before La Liga resumes at the end of December, as there are whispers Xavi’s side could play some friendlies next month.

The Spain boss has been sharing his thoughts on Twitch
Spain coach Luis Enrique has been entertaining fans on and off the pitch at World Cup 2022 in Qatar so far.
His team thrashed Costa Rica 7-0 in their opening game, while away from the action he’s been having some fun with some live streams.
Here’s a look at some of the gems Luis Enrique has come out with.
Why is he doing this?
“I like to be here doing streams. I like to talk. In school I used to talk so much that I would get suspended or kicked out of the classroom.”
World Cup 1994
“In the 94 World Cup I had to be marked by Paolo Maldini who was tall, strong and handsome.”
Which player is most like him on the pitch?
“That’s very easy - It’s Mr Ferran Torres - otherwise my daughter will come after me and chop off my head.”
Lucho’s diet
“I had six eggs for dinner, three fried and three boiled, green beans, sweet potato carrots, and I ended up with a yogurt. On pre-match days, the staff had a beer.”
On so much added time at the World Cup
“I love it because I am tired of playing very little time in an effective game. I think it’s great that it stretches both in the first and at the end. I have heard Collina, the more quality minutes are played, the better. It’s very successful, very favourable.”
Lucho’s favorite TV show
“I’ve watched ‘All or Nothing’. I love Mikel Arteta.”
On what he does in between international matches
“There is a lot of work, many hours. You ask my wife and she says: ‘Oh my God, you’ve got to stop spending so much time in front of the computer.”
Ansu Fati’s debut
“The first ball he touched he megged a player, did a few dribbles and won us a penalty. I asked my assistant, “what is this?”.”
Lucho’s dress sense
“I don’t have rituals of wearing the same clothes after winning a match. I don’t pay attention to what I wear. My wife chooses my outfits, I put them on and that’s it.”
On players having sex before matches
“It’s something I consider totally normal. I mean if you’re at an orgy the night before a match it’s not ideal. But hey.
“When I was a player if I was at home before a game, with my wife, well we did what we had to do.”
On who will win the World Cup
“If Spain don’t win the World Cup, I would like Argentina to win it. It would be unfair for a player like Leo Messi to retire without winning one.”
On Ferran Torres
“If Ferran Torres scores and does the baby celebration. I’ll take him off, send him to the stands and he won’t step on the pitch again.”

Today on the Barca Blaugranes podcast, we got a quick under ten-minute rundown of matchday 5 and 6 of the 2022 World Cup. Let’s recap the day’s matches and look forward to a full slate tomorrow.
On matchday 5 and 6 we were treated to a flurry of excellent matches. From Portugal almost blowing a match in catastrophic fashion, Brazil putting on a show, Iran shocking everyone, and England and the United State’s draw.
Frenkie de Jong spoke out about his Netherlands team’s World Cup chances after the Dutch side were held to a 1-1 draw on Friday by Ecuador.
The Dutch side took an early lead through Cody Gakpo but were denied all three points when Enner Valencia equalized.
Louis van Gaal’s side are still in good shape to qualify but De Jong knows they need to improve a lot if they are to go far in the tournament.
“Of the two teams, we have to be the most satisfied with a draw. I think we weren’t good especially on the ball, very sloppy,” he said.
“We don’t really see where the free man is and how to get there. I think we can do that a lot better, we showed that before the World Cup against good opponents.
“We certainly can and I think we certainly will. This is a good wake up call for us as a team. We’re going to work with it and analyze that. We certainly have the quality.”
De Jong also had praise for Ecuador who can also qualify for the knockout stages after taking four points from their first two games.
“The goal remains unchanged, even if you have a setback. Today was a very poor match for us,” he said.
“Well against a good team, because Ecuador is a difficult team – physically very strong, keep going for ninety minutes, fast powerful, also play nice football – so it is not as if we played against a bad team, but above all we can do much better.
“The positive thing is that we still manage to get that draw and that we keep going, but in possession we can improve a lot. We have that quality. We know we can do that, we have to show that now.”
Group A will wrap up on Tuesday with Netherlands taking on Qatar, who have already been eliminated, and Ecuador facing Senegal.

Ousmane Dembele opened up his World Cup campaign for France with an assist in the 4-1 win over Australia and coach Didier Deschamps is hoping for more from the Barcelona forward.
France are back in action in Qatar against Denmark on Saturday, and Deschamps spoke ahead of the game about Dembele’s improved maturity and how he can improve his game further.
“Four years ago, he was going through a difficult time with major injuries. Now, he is more mature, but he is still full of youthful exuberance. He is in a club that is very demanding, and maybe he is better at that club,” he said.
“He is always capable of creating enormous problems for the opponent as he is so quick and skilful, but he needs to rule out any wastefulness and be as effective as he possibly can. He was pleased to be in first XI, and he put in a good performance.”
Denmark will be expected to provide a stiff test than Australia and will head into the game in need of a good result after being held by Tunisia in their opener.
